NIH Islamabad is hiring 2 Janitor/Sweeper for PHLN National Level under IDSR/PHLN project. Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation of office buildings, laboratories, and premises. Position requires ability to read and write with preference for candidates having public or private sector work experience. Critical role in maintaining biosafety standards in health research environment.
Requirements
- Ability to read and write (basic literacy required)
- Work experience in public/private sector preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and sanitation protocols
- Physical fitness for manual labor and extended standing
- Understanding of hygiene and biosafety standards
- Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely
- Honesty and reliability for working in sensitive areas
- Punctuality and regularity in attendance
- Willingness to work in laboratory and office environments
- Knowledge of waste segregation and disposal
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Basic communication skills for understanding instructions
- Physical stamina for sweeping, mopping, and lifting
- Cleanliness consciousness and attention to detail
- No infectious diseases or health conditions preventing manual work
- Domicile certificate for merit category verification
Responsibilities
- Sweep and mop all floors in offices, corridors, laboratories, and common areas daily
- Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and equipment surfaces
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, washrooms, and plumbing fixtures thoroughly
- Empty waste bins and dispose of garbage according to segregation protocols
- Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and request replenishments
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning agents
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, switches, and railings
- Follow biosafety protocols when cleaning laboratory areas
- Handle and dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines
- Clean spills and contaminated areas immediately using proper PPE
- Maintain outdoor areas including pathways and entrance cleanliness
- Polish floors and apply floor maintenance treatments as scheduled
- Clean air vents, fans, and lighting fixtures periodically
- Report maintenance issues, repairs needed, or safety hazards to supervisors
- Follow label instructions for mixing and diluting cleaning chemicals
- Maintain cleaning equipment in proper working condition
- Lock doors and secure premises after cleaning shifts if required
- Participate in pest control and fumigation activities
- Support deep cleaning during audits, inspections, and special events
- Adhere to safety rules and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain cleaning logs and checklists at end of each shift
